About these terms
These terms apply when you use peakbag, whether or not you have an account. peakbag is run by Lee Pownall in the UK. By creating an account you agree to them. How we handle your data is explained in our privacy policy.
Your account
You need to be at least 13 to create an account. Keep your password safe and your email address up to date: you are responsible for what happens on your account. You can delete it at any time from your settings.
Acceptable use
Please don't use peakbag to:
- harass, threaten or impersonate anyone, or share their personal information without their consent;
- post anything unlawful, hateful, sexually explicit or deliberately misleading;
- upload content you do not have the right to share, or that contains malware;
- scrape, overload or try to break into the site, or get around privacy settings, blocks or rate limits;
- send spam or advertising, or create accounts in bulk.
We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules. If you see something that does, tell us at support@peakbag.com.
Your content
Your write-ups, photos, Tracks and comments stay yours. So that we can run the site, you give us permission to store them, make copies (for example, resized photos with location metadata removed) and show them to the people your visibility settings allow. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from copies kept briefly in backups.
Only post photos and words you have the right to share, and be thoughtful about other people who appear in them.
Peak data and credits
Peak and list data comes from the Database of British and Irish Hills (DoBIH), used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. Maps and boundary data are © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence. peakbag is not endorsed by either project.
Stay safe in the hills
We work hard to keep peak data accurate, but we can't guarantee it. Heights, positions, names, list memberships and conditions reports may be wrong or out of date. peakbag is a way to record and plan walks, not a navigation or safety tool. Always carry a proper map and compass, check the weather, and make your own judgement on the hill.
The service
We provide peakbag as it is, and we may change, pause or stop features. We will try to give notice of anything that affects your data, and you can ask us for a copy of it at any time. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses or for anything that happens on a walk you plan or record with peakbag. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have that cannot be limited by law.
Changes and the law
We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we will tell you before it takes effect, and the date at the top of this page will change. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
